Theres a theory around that says that complaining can actually become an asset if you decide what it is you dont like and act on it.
Most people have the same complaints. The first one is always that a resume isnt working when no interviews happen. Well, if thats the case then get busy figuring out why. Its true that the resume is the first thing a company sees about you, and if it isnt interesting, it will go straight to the trash. You have to set yourself a part in your resume, and if you dont know how, think about hiring a good resume writer. Cover letters are maybe more important as an HR person may never look at your resume if the cover letter isnt good. Another thing to do is to start building relationships through connections with people who work for companies that ARENT in the HR department.

Job Search Habits To Break |

If youve been on the search for a while and arent having a lot of success, its probably time to reassess how you are conducting the search, and at the same time look at some of the habits youve developed at the same time. No one sets out to develop bad habits. They just happen. And they can sure happen when youre out of work. Say you spend much of every day looking for jobs online because you feel its proactive, but nothing has come of it. Maybe its time to change things up!
Everyone develops different habits and it is said they can develop in 21 days or less.
Here are hints on what not to develop. See if any fit you.
Thinking you can do your search alone. Its a long enough process. Add some networking friends, former colleagues or others to your search.
Dont focus on what others think of you or your search.
Dont obsess about your search. Give yourself some breaks.
Dont take risks by guessing about anything regarding your search.
Stop being negative. Its contagious too.
Be sure you have a routine for yourself. Its easy to lose track of time |

Trying to find a decent job or even job listing these days is tough. If you arent already with a recruiter, its time to think about dealing with a few head hunting firms.
The first thing thats important is to identify the right recruiters for your field. Most are specialty these days, so you need to know theres a match before you go any further. If you know someone who has worked through them, get a referral. Or maybe someone in your network. Get that LinkedIn account going, and find people through it. Its a great resource so dont dismiss it. When you make the initial contact with the recruiter, it should be in the form of an introductory letter with general information on your employment history and accomplishments, but short and sweet. You want at least one face to face meeting and thats a good way to get it. Once you make contact with a recruiter, keep up the relationship. IT maybe that a job doesnt come a long for a while but you want to be remembered if one does. Dont count on him just keeping your resume |

All of those office supplies, travel expenses, and marketing expenses came out of their budget and you didnt have to deal with those deductions. Now that youre paying for a lot of those things out of your pocket during your job search, you need to figure out whats deductible and what isnt.
The first thing to know is that the IRS lets you write off expenses - including education and coaching - related to getting a job in the same field, but not if you are switching careers. There are other distinctions from them as well. When it comes to relocation, moving expenses are deductible if your new job is more than 50 miles further from your current home than your old job was and its only if you are moving for a full-time job. If youre finishing up school and trying to look for a job at the same time, it can get chaotic. Youre juggling a thesis or final exams all while searching around, meeting recruiters and trying to have some kind of a life. It can get to be a drag. If you can work out what your real priorities are, you might be able to make a better balance of it all for yourself.
One thing you can do is use your circumstances of being in school. If your school has a strong career center, us it. It can tell you about resources you might not know about. There may also be coaching and workshops. If youre working and going to school, its tough to carve out enough time for the job search so pick times that work for you and arent just crammed in because youve got ten minutes. If you start your search in January and you arent available until May, then you need to be clear to prospective employers about that so there is no misunderstanding.
